Sukie, so glad to hear that everyone is OK.

Sukie's experience should definitely be something to think about for
people who let there ferrets live as "Free Roam". As a ferret rescue
I have explained for years to new adopters the dangers of free roam
especially in the case of fire. If there is a fire in your home, if
your ferrets are caged or housed in a play pen when not being
supervised it is much easier to get them out of the house in case of
emergency such as a fire.

You know exactly where they are and are able to put them in carriers,
small cages and even pillow cases to safely remove them. If they are
"Free Roam", in a case of emergency, you usually don't have time to
look under and behind things to remove them from an emergency situation
before you are dragged out of your home screaming.

Using "In Case Of Emergency" stickers on your windows for pets such as
those for children in case of a fire, can save your pets life as it
indicates where your pets are located in your home to help emergency
crews save your pets. Putting a sticker on your front and back door
idicating what pets you have will help alert emergency people that
there are pets in the home. Fire fighter usually do not have time to
search for your pets and remove them safely although some will go that
extra mile.

So for those who let their ferrets Free Roam, I'm asking that you
PLEASE rethink you decision of Free Roam. It may someday save you
4 legged family members lives in an emergency situation..
