We don't have skunks in my city neighborhood, but we do have possums. We
use pelleted alfalfa as litter for our ferrets, and compost it in our
compost bin. (We turn our pile frequently, and it stays quite hot.)

One night last week I was up late doing some pre-holiday baking, and took
some scraps to the compost bin. Imagine my surprise when I startled a
possum happily rolling and snuffling around in the latest fresh ferret
litter. I closed the top and left him alone in possum bliss. Maybe it's
different for skunks, but possums sure seem to love the stuff !
