Fleas: look in
http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/ferrethealth/common_parasites.txt
and more recent info in the FHL Archives (addy below my name)

For your friend who moved, Lynn, and for you, Patty, since some of
the listings mention WHY the vets are recommended -- here are some
places to find vets (which differ so use at least several):

http://www.ferretcongress.org (crit refs but there is a lot more there)
http://www.supportourshelters.org (shelters and the vets they use)
http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/ferrethealth/ReferenceShelf/
       FerretVets.htm
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/vets/ (Search by zip code, read FAQ first)
http://www.quincyweb.net/quincy/vet.html
http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/vets.htm (2 listings)
http://www.ferretcentral.org/for-others/db-vets.html
http://www.ferretuniverse.com/index.html
http://www.hugawoozel.com/vetlisting.html
http://www.geocities.com/houseferrets13uk/Vets.html (UK vets)
http://www.ferrets.org/Veterinarian_Listings.htm (British Columbia vets)
http://www.ferretnews.org/clinic.html (California-specific)
http://www.ferretsanonymous.com/medical.html (California)
http://www.vetcontact.com/en/vet.php?k=91 (Specialists anywhere)

You can also ask regional clubs, look in magazines, and DO try Googling.
Here is a recent example of one I found for someone when I googled on:

"West Virginia" ferret DVM

Got:
http://www.animalcareassociates.com/doctors.html
and others.

Insulinoma: Stacy, he NEEDS his Prednisolone and you should also consider
doing a trial run of Diazoxide. See the compounding pharmacies (many of
which ship) in the FHL site, and read about Diazoxide in the archives.
(See below my name for addies.) If you can't get meds in then you have
to supplement sugar intake around the clock but there are multiple
reasons why that is not optimal. If done early by a vet who knows what
insulinomas are like in ferrets surgery can be very useful. Six years
old is not too old. You have a very responsible vet to admit to what is
beyond his limits of ability, experience, and study so far. Good person!
Perhaps you need to read up on how to give medications. There are a
number of tips out there.
