Jeffrey, while I know there are others out there who've had the entire right
and left glands removed and have done well with medication (Lysodren?), and
I also know that you'll be hearing from them, I'll give you my experience
anyway.

When my 4 y.o. MF femal developed signs of adrenal problems two years ago I
assumed it was the left (since most are). When the surgery was done, Dr.
Charlie Weiss (Potomac Animal Hospital -- 301-299-4142) had done a bilateral
adrenalectomy. However, I believe he left about half the right gland in, so
Claudia would not have to be medicated.

Apparently Dr. Weiss is doing some sort of study on adrenals in ferrets. I
don't know if only taking a part of the gland is an option for your ferret,
but I'm sure Dr. Weiss would be happy to discuss this with your vet.

Good luck!

Amy, Dave & Sarah (and their gaggle of giggling ferrets)
RIP Ian and Elektra
