Renee wrote that she was going to ferret-proof the couch by stapling fabric
to the bottom, and that Tinkerbell would be mad.  I wanted to comment: Yes,
it works, and OH HOO BOY do they get mad.  Oh man.  It's been four months
since we prevented Potpie from digging into the couch from the bottom by
stapling denim to the underside of the frame, and she's only just recently
stopped digging at the cloth trying to get back in.  She still does it
infrequently - but for the first few weeks, that was *all* she did when she
was let out.  :) Do they stomp around angrily?  Yes.  Will they glare at
you?  Yes.  Did she hiss in annoyance?  Yep.  Hope you have a
better-tempered ferret than i do :).
