Bruce William's question about blood analysis was well-taken; I had
forgotten that the first visit had revealed both dehydration and low
blood sugar levels. After a week of antibiotics, no dehydration but
continuing blood sugar levels. The vet thinks it's insulinoma, and this
is consistent with Rael's lethargy and skinny condition. She hasn't
had seizures or had obvious salivation, but we are tentatively going to
finish the current round of antibiotics, wake her up every few hours
to encourage her to eat in the meantime, and then put her in surgery.

The articles on insulinoma on the Web page, by the way, were
very useful to us in thinking about this. This doesn't help Rael, of
course, but hopefully the surgery will.

Glitz (Rael's sister) is, of course, jealous of all the attention her
littermate's getting. I asked her if she'd rather have the eye gunk back.
She looked back, all innocent, as if to say, "What eye gunk? You
never put any gunk in my eye! You just woke me up eight times a
day to cuddle me, right?"
