Hi all, if you don't need to read a downer skip this :\

What a Christmas... My husband and I were nearly done all of our shopping
when 3 days before Christmas the car breaks down. We get it into a shop
and a fortune later we have a car again. No cash left for any more
presents, but we figure we'll work something out.

The next morning I find Mojo throwing up clear liquid, foaming and pawing
at his mouth. He was pretty sick and I was shocked how fast it came on; he
seemed great the day before. He was having black tarry poops now too. I
called my vet (an exotics specialist) and found that the clinic is closed
'til the 27th

I made an appointment with a different vet I'd heard good things about.
He said it looked like enteritis and put him on amoxicillin (I think) and
nutrical. We were able to manage the vet bill and then we headed off,
Mojo in tow to my parents for Christmas.

Moj did not respond at all to the meds over the next few days, and this
morning he looked like he wasn't going to live another hour, much less
another day so we could get him to our regular vet. Amazingly though, he
came out of this bizarre huffing state (he couldn't move, just laid in
whatever position you put him in and took very rapid shallow breaths) and
began to show some interest in the surroundings again. I force-fed him
some more nutrical and water and he slept.

We're home now and he was out exploring for a short time. He is drinking
water again (still refusing food) and seems to have rebounded a bit from
this morning's scare. I don't know what on earth we're dealing with but
the other three ferrets haven't contracted it. I'll be taking him in to
see my regular vet tomorrow unless he experiences some wonderful recovery
tonight. Why, oh why do things like this always have to happen at the
WORST times? If there is a higher power, he sure has a wacky sense of
humour!

Thank you all for letting me vent a bit, it's very therapeutic :) I'll
let you all know how this turns out
