Hello Everyone,
I recently read the FML post from Joanne Ruffner in which she suggested
that FML people hold yard sales to benefit Support Our Shelters. I think
this is a GREAT idea, and I am currently trying to plan such a yard sale
for this summer. Hence my post...

When I sat down & began planning out ways to make this happen, I realized
that I have one "problem". My boyfriend & I just bought our first
house almost two years ago, and we don't really have all that much
"stuff" anymore - we either threw out or gave away most of our old &
decrepit/extra things when we moved. I thought I could ask some of
our friends & neighbors to donate their own stuff to make for a more
impressive selection at the yard sale. However, involving other people &
their property brings up a set of potentially complex situations that I
was hoping an experienced FML member could advise me on. For example...

1. As I am not a business or charity, how do I go about giving people
receipts for their donated stuff? Or do I just see if the person's
stuff sells & then worry about getting them a receipt?

2. How do I avoid getting stuck with a basement full of other people's
crap if some/all of it doesn't sell?

I have a million other questions, but I don't want to take up any more
space than necessary. I think a yard sale would be a great way to not
only raise funds for SOS, but to raise general ferret/ferret shelter
awareness as well. If anyone could email me privately with advice,
anecdotes, suggestions, dos & donts, etc. I would much appreciate it.
Thanks so much!

jessica.
