Have been thinking of this, ever since a discussion of the price of ferrets
in different places.  I was thinking of the real price of ferrets.  This is
what I came up with.
 
What does this ferret cost?
Hours frantic, thinking they're lost.
 
How much can it possibly be?
Days, teaching not to chew on me.
 
Expensive? Surely just nickels.
Lots of time giving tummy tickles.
 
Can the cost be so much?
Weeks, of giving a soft touch.
 
It can be no more than several dollars.
Months, laughing at the comedy scholars.
 
Is it true there's a lot of debt?
Just many tears that will be wept.
 
Are they really an expensive pet?
Only spending minutes like hours at the vet.
 
What price, this ferret to start?
Just years of joy and all of your heart.
 
And it's worth every bit of it.
