What is a good squeaky/ chew toy for a young ferret? My Sebastian is
around 5 or 6 months old and loves to nip and gnaw on things, usually me or
his favorite towel. I got him a squeaky toy that I thought would be good
for him because it didn't have small pieces that could break off and get
lodged in his throat or cause him blockage if they were swallowed.

I got him this cute little rubber toy in the shape of a hound dog. He
would tote it around and squeeze it occasionally. He'd then act suprised
as if he didn't know where the squeak came from. I think he finally
figured out that if he squeezed it, it squeaked. I put him to bed one
night, snuggled up with the rubber dog. When I got up the next morning,
Sebastian had chewed the poor dog's ears and feet completely off. Nothing
left but four holes.

I didn't find any big pieces in the cage with him, just a few very tiny
scraps of rubber, which I picked out and threw away. If he did swallow any
of the pieces, they must have been small enough to pass right through him.
When we went to the vet, she said everything was normal and that I
shouldn't worry. That was a week ago. He has been steadily eating and
pooping since then. Any suggestions on a good chew toy/baby for my little
Sebastian? Thanks,

Shannon
