i probably wouldn't have gotten around to bathing the ferrets,
but i smeared them with sweet-smelling oil so that they wouldn't
all try to kill the new one today. it didn't work. in fact, it
backfired, because then the two who already KNEW each other didn't
recognize each other and started screaming and pulling fur.

sigh.

shampoo of choice tonight was the flea and tick bath--not the
emollient pet shampoo in the blue bottle that looks exactly like
my blue bottle of betadine douche. i wouldn't want to mess up
and come out with orange ferrets, you know?

you should see ferrets when they're wet. not only do they look
like lint-covered snakes--slightly fuzzy, long and skinny,
 with fangs and
beady eyes--but they become quite hysterical.
they flop onto their heads, corkscrew across the floor,
and plow themselves
over (or through) virtually anything to get dry. like the kitty
litter. and they entirely lose their judgment. suddenly, they
think plastic runners are absorbent; the books
on the bookshelf are aborbent--anything but the towel.

now, as they start to dry and calm down, it's back to the status
quo--kill the new one. another week or so, and they'll hopefully
become friends with a heartwarming single aim--kill the snake plant.
