I had to find some export info for someone going from the U.S. to the
U.K., so here are the essential URLs, minus the quotes he needed: Info
is SPECIFICALLY for U.S. to U.K.

There WAS a six month quarantine, and the individual needed extensive
paperwork in both countries. THINGS HAVE SINCE IMPROVED. The way to
find out what has changed is to look here:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quaranti...

[Moderator's note: Don't know what you're using to copy links Sukie :-)
You probabably mean:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/territory.htm BIG]

Notice that the USA *IS* a qualifying country (no quarantine) in
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quaranti...
[Try:
<http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/procedures/support-info/other.htm>

Here is the USDA Import-Export URLs:

[I dunno, I'm guessing these should be:

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/ncie/iregs/animals/
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/ncie/iregs/animals/uk.html BIG]

Because of vaccines needed you will also need to inform yourself about
CDV (canine distemper virus for which there are vaccines such as
Merial Purevax Ferret CD Vaccine) and rabies (a exceedingly rare and
preventable disease for ferrets when the IMRAB 3 vaccine is used) with
resources such as
Rabies:
Professional information:

CDC Q&A on ferrets, dogs, and cats in relation to rabies:

National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians: the latest
Compendium of Animal Rabies Control and Prevention is in documents:

Since the site used links with partial URLs begin with

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/index.shtml

and working from that the rest can all be found!

Someone actually posted to the poor person that ferrets are considered
vermin in the U.K so can't be imported. GADS!

[Moderator's note: Since I'm commenting anyhow, note microchipping is
required. Trouble is, most microchips implanted in the USA WILL NOT
QUALIFY, since US companies use a proprietary standard instead of the
ISO 11784 or ISO 11785-A standards like the rest of the world. Ah, USA
capitalism at work! Be sure you check before you chip. BIG]
