I wish I could respond personally to everyone who sent me advice on my poor
little ferret, Spot. However I got such an overwhelming response I decided
to post my thanksto the entire list, so as to not forget anyone. I took
away Spot's Cheweasels (boy was she pissed!) and went back to 100% Nutro
(which was a lot of fun, since I had already mixed them together!) and
coaxed, tricked and forced her to take Kaopectate while drinking large
quantities of Pedialyte (which she loved, thankfully) all to no avail.

My vet has diagnosed the poor little thing with colitis. She is to fast
(pedialyte and water only for 1day) and then will be on a diet of science
diet canned i/d and w/d mixed. She is to get 1 to 2 ml of Kaopectate every
6 to 8 hours or as needed, 0.3 ml metronidizole twice a day, and 0.1 ml
sulfasalazine twice a day. The meds are to be given for 6 days. Any vets
have any feedback on these recommendations? I don't think my vet sees a
lot of ferrets, but he seems very knowledgable and is not afraid to look
something up if he is not sure.
