surgery for insulimona

We have a ferret that has just been diagnosed with insulimona.  We have
read quite a bit about it and are somewhat considering the surgery.
Please share your thoughts concerning this.  This is a male neutered
ferret that will be four in November.  He has no other problems before
now, but is definitely lethargic, doesn't want to eat much and back end
is giving out.
