I get a lot of requests about ferrets.  Lately there have been a lot of
questions about taming baby ferrets.  First, I don't feel that baby ferrets
need "taming".  They need gentling, just like a horse does.  Also many
people have the perception that baby ferrets are cute, cuddly and will lay
in your arms by the hour (or at least a few minutes).  WRONG!!!  If a baby
ferret is healthy...it is a bundle of energy, a stick of dynamite and a
rocket all in one.  However, the question always comes back to .....how can
I hold my baby as it keeps squirming and/or biting until I put it down.
First, you must take the time to hold the baby.  Gently, but very firmly
and with great determination...hold the baby.  If it squirms...hold the
baby.  If it bites.....blow hard in its face or scream...but HOLD the baby.
If you put it down...you have lost the battle.  Sit and hold that baby
quietly until it becomes quiet and quits struggling.  Then snuggle and love
it and put it down.  Only put the baby down when it quits struggling.
