Hi everyone!
I have a question i was hoping you could help me with. I have a ferret that
someone brought to the pet store i manage and i wound up keeping. he said
that she was found outside and he had no idea whose she was, or any info
about her.so i was going to find her a home, little did i know she'd choose
her own...

anyway, my vet said at the time that he thought she was about 3 years old
(almost a year ago, now), but i'm beginning to wonder if she's not alot
older. she's always been a little on the calm side and lately she's been
even more lethargic than ever. she now has 3 more (rescued) cagemates, so
it's not like she has nothing to do. but everytime we let them out of the
cage she walks around for a few minutes, tries to find a spot with EJ and i
to just sit, and then she finds a hidey hole and curls up to sleep. even
thuogh she just woke up! also, she's making me a litle nervous because she
seems to be on a "diet rollercoaster." sometimes i pick her up and she's
gone past a petite ferret to where i can feel her bones and then a few days
later, she starts to fatten up again. no one is showing any bad stools in
the litterbox, and none of the other ferrets are having this problem. in
fact, if anything, her two brothers are getting a little too much winter fat
and her new little sister is finally gaining enough weight to be considered
a real ferret (this one was rescued from a home where she was kept in a
closet and fed sporadically-you can imagine how thrilled she is - now that
she has some energy - to have all these buddies and this room to play!)
right now, they are eating a mixture of the 8in1 ferret food and kitten food
(for extra protien). i just babysat a customer's ferrets who were eating
the totally ferret diet and i was really impressed with that so as soon as
we have it in the store (about a month from now) we'll be switching over.
in the meantime, i just found out that if i mix 1/4 of a 3oz can of kitten
food with ferretone and ferretvite she loves it and it's helping her gain
weight again. do you think it's ok to give her this, and do you have any
idea why she drops and gains weight like she does? oh yeah, a little while
back she got lethargic and felt hot and was pooping green applesauce so my
vet put her on some medicine for 10 days and she was fine afterwards. do
you think there's any way that might have anything to do with this? any
answers you can send are greatly appreciated. oh yeah, i can only get
access to the fml once a week, so if you could send your replys to the email
address, i'd appreciate that too =)
