Dear FML friends-

Mocha had his spleen removed last week and is recovering nicely. I
wanted to thank everyone who provided info to me. FML friends are
the best!

Mocha's spleen weighed 1/3 of a pound and was larger than the vet
expected. It did not have tumors and appeared OK. Vet thinks the spleen
was pressing on the stomach and making Mocha vomit. The drooling that
he experienced only occurred one day and was most like due to nausea.
When Mocha came home after that day in the hospital in December, we
watched him very carefully and realized that Mocha wasn't eating. We
started him on soup and he was so hungry!! (It is hard to tell who is
eating and who isn't when you have more than one ferret. Our ferrets
are not caged but instead have their own room. LOL) In October he
weighed 3 lbs 6 oz and in December he weighed 3 lbs 2 oz so he
apparently was losing weight even though the spleen was getting bigger.
We fed him frequently to build him up before surgery and on the day of
surgery he weighed 3 lbs 4 oz. He is now eating kibble again but we are
still supplementing with small servings of soup from time to time.

You can see pix of Mocha at this link. I didn't post any pix of his
stitches. :-)
