Don't Panic. (*)    - love a chance for an inside joke....
 
If the wax coming out of Zaphod's ears is quite a bit darker than the
from Trillian you might have a case of ear mites on your hands.  Use a
cat based ear mite medicine to clean the ears.  Should clear up fairly
easily.  (Vets of course might know something else to check for.)
 
An off-label use of Ivormectin is to clear of ear mites also but you
should probably use the commercial product if the case isn't too bad.
Learned this trick from dog breeders and Dr. Kawasaki and about half the
ferret breeders in this area.  Ivormectin is a pig or cow product and
available only in large containers.
