I dreamed up FERRET EXPO and brainstormed it with Karen LeBlanc
(also started UFO), George Harmon (IFA), Chuck and Fox Morton
(Path Valley Farms), Vickie Waldron and Sally Heber (currently
president of the AFA, host organization for FERRET EXPO). This was
begun in 1987 at the Gaithersburg Fairgrounds in Maryland and
moved in 1988 to the Old Armory/Rec Center in Frederick.

That said, I want to congratulate the staff of FERRET EXPO for
holding the best EXPO ever! The sense of an "exposition" for the
domestic ferret was truly met with this show. Highly regarded
specialists held seminars while judges on the main floor viewed
the best bred ferrets in the country (my opinion, of course, but
I have heard the judges say this many times).

Representatives of clubs and companies displayed ferret equipment
supplies and information for the public to see and buy. Many
professional displays were lit up and stocked with handouts.

This comes on the heels of the (IMHO) best publication on ferrets,
the AFA REPORT's January/February issue. Legal, medical, social
and fun stuff, crisply organized and professionally rendered. Call
(301) 898-3228 for more info.

They even let me help judge an event at the show ... knowing that I
am not trained in this area ... the YOUTH SPORTSMANSHIP ring, sponsored
by United Vaccine. Training the ferret owners of tomorrow -- what
a country!

Please support the American Ferret Association, Inc. and any other
ferret club or organization that you feel you can help. They really are
changing the public's perception of ferrets and it can only be done
with help (i.e., $$ and time) from us.
