I do not know if there are any published studies on locations of
insulinomas in ferrets. In Feldman and Nelson's Endrocrinology book
(second edition) there is a summary of 72 insulinomas in dogs. 47% were
in the right lobe, 40% in the left lobe, and 13% in the central area.
Thus there is no predisposition for tumor location in the dog pancreas. If
no tumor can be seen or palpated then removal of the right lobe may help.

Enterotomies in ferrets are similiar to dogs and cats except the intestinal
tract is smaller, so smaller sized suture material is needed (4-0). Also
making the incision in a longitudinal direction then closing it in a
transverse direction helps prevent post-op strictures.

Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM

PS The Sept + Nov 1999 Compendiums have articles about ferret surgeries.
