       Rebecca, Nicole:
 
       Your agreement that recorded music dosen't affect your critters
     suggest that it's the high frequency components of your instruments'
     sound that's affecting your fuzzies.
 
       Even the best stereos don't reproduce sounds above about 20,000
     Hertz (cycles per second) because the human ear can't normally hear
     them.  But other animals aren't so limited (though the only number I
     have on tap is for dolphins: >400,000 Hz).
 
       So it could be the part of the music you can't hear that's affecting
     Carlyle and Freya.  Does anyone know offhand the typical response of a
     ferret's ears?  (Or maybe the high frequency component of a bagpipe or
     concertina?)
 
     PS: It might be interesting to see what their reaction is to one of
     those 'silent' ultrasonic dog whistles :)
