Hi all I just had to reply because for the past 7 months I have been
plagued with some sort of allergy and beak out in hives that itch badly.
My doctor gave me prednisone which then gave me an ulcer and GERD which
is a disorder of the esophagus. I then was still itching so I went to an
allergist. I was asked if I had any pets. I hesitated and then told him
I currently was owned by two. He then told me ferrets are not what is
causing my hive reaction but if I owned a cat or dog then he was going to
give me allergy injections to alive the hive reaction. I am still breaking
out in hives and my allergist insists there are no known tests to see if
I really am. allergic to my ferrets and he still feels it is highly
unlikely.

I do believe one can be allergic to ferrets but it is not very common.
I am now taking Benydrl when I need it as all of the other allergy
medications have not helped and some had made me so zonked out I could not
function. Just know one can be allergic to almost anything but I am glad
my allergist gave me medical facts about ferrets not causing reactions in
his patients he sees.

I hope that for all of you suffering with allergies Claitin or Beyndryl
can help let you keep your ferrets..

I know if it ever came down to suffering and not being able to breath I
would have no choice but to find new homes for my fur kids and if I were
allergic to that point I would feel very guilty I could not take care of
them and that is not fair for any pet one has.

Thanks for letting me post about my allergy problem. as of today both
doctors have no idea what I am allergic to..

ferret hugs,
Michele

[Moderator's note: There IS a test for allergies to ferrets. Please see
