It is wth a saddened heart we relate the passing of our old boy Socks
Ferretwaise Sals.

SOCKS arrived back at Ferret Wise on Dec 20th, in very poor health.
Advanced insulinoma had caused a crash and he was not eating. His
owner returned form an away job and found him in trouble. NO vets were
available he know not what to do-- we agreed to work with the old man who
found his owner at Ferret Wise. Socks had dropped a LOT of weight and
with the help of steroids and feedings Socks rallied. Socks rallied
enough that we could see he had a number of old age problems. He was
blind in both eyes--- but his nose would scout out those RAISINS!

For a brief period Socks did well then he crashed again. A jump start was
not to be Socks was ready to pass over - he fought feedings we managed to
keep him going on sub -q's but he did not want to be here-- his time was
decidedly spent. We allowed Socks to fight feedings for a few days- tried
pred etc. hoping -- just hoping he would decide life was still grand
enough but we would not let Socks suffer. Sadly we allowed Socks to visit
the vet one more time-- for a final opinion. Socks was almost 9 years
old... he started his life in a Michigan pet store- journeyed to Boston,
MA with his first owner -- who had no time left for him when his life/job
changed. We were so lucky to find Socks a single Dad he craved-- and with
him Socks had another good life from 1996 until 2002 Socks was a happy
ferret-- and then his clock ran down.

Farewell Socks you were the most beautiful black hooded sable boy = may
you dance the wardance at Ferrets Rest. We hold you very close in our
hearts and will think of you often.
