Have no idea how your refrigerator is situated in your kitchen so
modify accordingly. Also, it's not necessarily pretty.

Get cardboard. The cardboard must be almost as high as your
refrigerator and half as wide. Duct tape it securely to the sides,
blocking entrance to the back so the ferrets can't get in back of
the fridge.

For the front, buy a length of gutter guard. It comes in white and
brown. It has one thick edge and the rest is a flat screen. It's made
to snap into a gutter to keep debris out. Cut it to fit the front of
the fridge. Open fridge door. Put the gutter guard with the thick edge
against the floor and tape the top to the refrigerator. The door should
still close. Tape the sides as well to the sides of the fridge.

The gutter guard works well to keep ferrets out of a lot of places,
just as long as you remember the screen makes it easy to climb. Thus
the use of it lengthwise only, not vertically.
