you don't deserve any flames...this was not a conscious act of cruelty on
your part...it was an accident!...plain and simple!!!
 
i would never have even considered there would be a problem with my ferrets
and a kitten...in fact i had a kitten with my ferrets...the kitten grew up
thinking he was a ferret!!!...still does and he is 2 1/2 years old now!!...
BUT he was 2 months old (old enough to defend himself) when we got him...
not a newborn babe...
 
i am so sorry for your traumatic experience...and i know how hard it was to
share it...but it WILL help...
 
as i said...it never even occured to me that there could be danger
there...and i am not an inexperienced critter care-giver...i have had cats
all my life...and that is not a short time...either!!!!...LOL...and ferrets
for the last 3 years...i just have never had a problem introducing new
critters to the others...
