If the patient is not currently under the care of a veterinarian, the client
is recommended to take their ferret to one.**

Yes, it can occur.  If the ferret is doing well, just monitor for 6-8 weeks
for hair regrowth.  If no regrowth, consider something like adrenal disease

and they should be treated symptomatically for possible helicobacter.
