I was just sitting here...before I got to your post...and trying to figure
out what was "so wrong" with Marshall Farms...et al...
 
I have 6 ferrets...all of them are MF, and I made sure they were before
getting them...(I have to admit I would have gotten Feivel no matter
what!)... the one I did get that was not MF I could not keep...she attacked
my husband everytime she saw him...we had to give her to someone else...
I have heard of other large breeders, but have not had the opportunity to
spend time with their ferrets...but I KNOW MF ferrets are bred and raised
to be gentle, loving pets...and that has been my experience with any I
have come in contact with... If a large, well known breeder does not
consistantly produce pets of high quality and good temperment, they would
not, could not stay in business... Don't get me wrong... I am not
"knocking" small breeders...they need to stay in business, too...but they
have a much smaller clientelle to judge them...either good or bad... the
large breeders are the ones who make it possible for MOST of us to be able
to have those special little lights in our lives...
