I first read the book in elementary school.  It was one of my personal
favorites at the time!  (imagine that!).  The after-school special started
playing when I was probably around 12 years old.  I'm twenty two now, so
y'all do the math.  It's a little out-dated, though that's no excuse for
wrong data.  Please remember that the show was taken from a very cute (but
wrong) children's fiction book, which was written a looong time ago.  The
book is very amusing to children, and was written to entertain.
 
Just my .02 on the matter!!
