For those of you with wire-chewing ferrets:
 
go to a pool-supplies store and buy pool tubing (ie, for vacuuming pool
bottoms, etc) about 2" diameter and run your wires through that.  A friend
of mine is doing this for his bunny, and it seems like it'd work great for
ferrets too.
