Dozer's problem was best diagnosed as colitis/IBD. The major problem
right now, and one that seems to be killing him, is that he won't stop
trying to defecate. When I say won't stop, I mean literally. It's worse
than it's been all week. He just came home from the vet this evening
after being there over night for the second time this week. His
exploratory surgery was Monday, and if not for the fact that his rectum
was sewed from the inside during that surgery to prevent prolapse,
then he most certainly would have long since fully prolapsed by now.
He is completely raw down there and in obvious pain despite being
on Bupronex. He's also on chloramphenicol (1.3 ml twice daily),
prednisolone (1.0 mg twice daily), pepcid, benebac, and has gotten a
switch to a grain-free and poultry-free food. I have Kendall Thermazene
ointment to put in his raw skin from his penis to his anus, and all
around. He is going down hill and nothing I do can get him to stop
straining and pushing to the point of exhaustion and extreme pain.
He's only 4 years old.
