I have already submitted one post about Dole's abrupt departure, but my
son, Neil, (whose birthday is Wednesday) has written a poem that pretty
much sums up our feelings about our loss. He calls it Ode to Dole:

A sly look,
A glimpse of cinnamon mask,
a loaf of bread with legs....
Dole has struck

The flash of fangs,
A cunning glance,
a loud crash in the night....
Dole has struck

A gorgeous coat,
A silent laugh,
lick lick lick....CHOMP
Dole has struck

An e'er-softening look,
A comforting head on your foot,
A quick volley of kisses....
Dole has struck

I loved you in all our shared moments,
both good and bad.
You were there for me when I needed you,
I will always hold you dear.
My love for you will endure all tests,
rest in peace, my gorgeous, terrible, wonderful, mean, sweet, special
friend.
