This was in todays SF Chronicle newspaper in the Public Pulse section: "East
Bay Assemblyman Don Perata reports that he didn't get a single phone call
about the big welfare reform package that's getting all the front page press
this week.  But when it came to legalizing pet ferrets a couple of weeks
back, Perata said his phone lines lit up like a Christmas tree"
