Oh pish and tosh! Woodstove pellets are a fine safe litter material.
Ferrets may nibble at them on the first encounter, but even if they ate a
whole one, the speed with which each pellet crumples to dust when wet, would
indicate no blockage will occur. The dire warning post sounded suspiciously
like an ad for "that other stuff", since we were all invited to "e-mail for
a price list". Also - pine litter is digestable? Not by ferrets it isn't!
Wood stove pellets come in various "mixtures". The ones I can get during
winter smell more piney, than the hardwood pellets I have to pay 50 cents
more per 40 lb bag for now. Each type works well, and the hardwood pellets
break down more quickly and to a finer powder than the others.

My time is valuable - this is at least .05 worth.
