This beautiful little girl spent most of her life at the DMK ferret
farm. She was taken with the others, to be given a chance at a better
life. Since she looked like she might be pregnant, she, along with a
few other possibly pregnant jills, were taken home by a kind person
who had experience with mommas and kits.

She was given a bath, nails trimmed, ears cleaned. She had her own cage
with soft, warm bedding, fresh water and good food. But most important
of all, she was given a name - Butternut - because of her beautiful
rusty orange color and brown mask.

Butternut grew fatter each day - her nipples got bigger, to prepare for
her kits. The kind lady made sure she got out to play, and checked her
every day to see how the kits might be coming along..

but one day it was clear that she couldn't feel any kits, and Butternut
was not starting to get her milk in preparation. It seemed like there
was something in her abdomen that was getting bigger. So Butternut went
to the vet, who was going to spay her and do an exploratory. He found a
mass in her abdomen, and it ruptured as he was removing it. Butternut
was helped to the Bridge..

Bridge Greeters, please welcome Butternut - if you could find Freckles
and Frolic, Smudge, Ragamuffin, Jersey, Bandersnatch and Black&Tan, I
know all of my kids who have crossed would welcome her into their
group. Please let her know that a lot of people cared about her.

And thank you to all who helped in the effort to give the Ohio rescue
kids a chance at a real ferret's life - where they were hugged and
loved, given more than the essentials for survival; given warm loving
hands, kind words and hugs, and most especially, their very own name.
I know Butternut enjoyed every moment of it..
