My 3 year old ferret back in january was discovered dragging his left
rear leg. Always kept it straight, never wanted to bend. Took him to
vet and to orthopedic specialist who ruled out any broken bone and told
me to monitor and administered steroid injections for 3 days to reduce
swelling.

He slowly got better over the next 6-8 weeks to almost 90% of where he
was then one day was dragging it again. Now it has been about 6 weeks
since that (reinjury?) and he has slowly gotten better at walking and
does fine when he goes slow but the second he tries to run it flops
out. If I support his rear by holding his tail, he runs fine as long
as not as much weight on it.

I'm taking him in for an ultrasound next week since I worry about
healing or anything else this could be besides a tear.

I know hind leg weakness is usually not one sided nor gets better so I
believe this is not symptomatic of anything else but he did develop a
fast cataract that we didn't see back in february. Bloodwork was pretty
normal just elevated calcium (I was giving high doses in his food) and
creatinine (possible from pushing kidneys to hard with calcium and also
he is limited movement due to leg) which could be renal but normal urea
and potassium levels.

Anyone with experience with muscle damage in ferrets or advice on
anything above?

thank you
scott & achilles
