Hi Rochelle,
 
My ferret Jack had a piece of plexiglass fall on his paw & it broke 4 out
of 5 toes on his front right paw!  He was in a cast (not hardened) for
almost two weeks (yep, he kept it on) then he was in two more casts for
a few days each (those came off by his effort LOL) then he was healed
enough to go without a cast.  You can see the cast in these two pics:

He still has bone callouses on the top of his paw, and his toes don't line
up quite right, but otherwise he's the same little guy I've known & loved
