Hello all,

It's been 8 months since our first sweetie (Meagan) died of insulinoma.
We've only just recently felt ready to welcome another ferret into our house,
but today was the day. I've been looking for about two months now, and today
I saw an ad in our local paper, phoned, and convinced the VERY responsible
young owner that we were the best home for his Loki. (They were moving into
an apartment that didn't accept pets).

Loki is about 2 years old and I think he would be a silver mitt? Pale brown
fur except on his feet and part of his face. He seems a little skinny. His
previous person had been feeding him 9 Lives, but we'll be switching him to
Science Diet, I think. We're taking him in to see the vet on Monday. His
tail is bushier than Meagan's--it's almost like a squirrel's. Is this
common?

We've had him home for 2 hours now and he's explored everywhere, made
friends with our two dogs and three cats, found a favourite hiding spot,
stolen and stashed the other animals' food, had a nap, discovered how to
climb up onto my computer table (which Meagan never did), dragged his toys
to his hiding spot, and is now re-exploring everything!

It's so nice to have a ferret again--and I'm amazed at how quickly he and
the other animals have adapted. When they first met each other he hissed at
them all but didn't seem too worried about them. The dogs want to play with
him, but he's busy so he hisses at them. If they don't leave him alone he
hides under something until they go away. I've been watching them very
closely (and will continue to do so) but so far it seems like a totally
painless introduction!

Sorry to burble on like this, but not too many people that we know care
about ferrets (incomprehensible). It's nice to tell this to people who do
care about them.
