This is just my guess, but this whole lick lick chomp thing seems to remind
me of the ferrets normal grooming behavior.
 
We've got a bunch of lickers.  They like licking your arms, legs, face,
ears and eyes.  Some will nip after licking a while.  I see the exact same
behavior while they groom one another.
 
Sometimes while grooming one another, they're gentle and careful.  Other
times, they'll start to clean and if resisted in any way, they'll give a
bite to settle the other ferret down.
 
Just some thoughts.
