Tell your friend to take his/her fuzzy to the vet immediately.  It sounds
to me like the fert could have a blockage or ulcers.  Either way, the
prognoisis without treatment isn't great.  It doesn't take long for a
ferret to expire from a blockage.  If it is ulcers, a fur kid can become
anemic or die from internal bleeding.  Even if it isn't either of these
things, it seems like the little guy is pretty uncomfortable--a vet can
probably alleviate the fert's discomfort.
