Hi, this is Okeechobee Ferret-Cat Rescue, have all of the ferret rescues
in Florida been heard from?  Are all okay?  I've only talked to 3.
 
I rented a cargo van, bought several kennels, and rabbit cages that were
really a good size, stacked them in and secured with bungie cords,,left
the eve of 9/2 with 25 cats, 8 ferrets, 4 dogs and my Mom, we were on
our way to north Georgia to an ebay friends home, my Mom got sick 4;30AM
friday morning, I had to get off at Kissimmee, Fl, God was with us, we
found a hotel room, and a big one, room for all of the animals.  The
hotel management were wonderful people.  When my Mom was better, we were
informed by EOC, REd Cross and Police to stay where we were , the storm
was too close and there was a huge gas shortage.  the trip we had just
made is normally 1.5 hour drive for me, it took us 7.5 hours just to get
there.
 
We left for home on tuesday the 7th, could not pay the hotel bill but
was allowed to leave, I will have to pay them eventually.
 
Okeechobee was hit hard, the eye of the storm came thru Ft.  Pierce, Port
St.  Lucie and across Okeechobee.  My home is livable, but it must have
shook it pretty bad, it's a double wide mobile home, the seam is broken
and one side is lower than the other.  That means a leaky roof in the
future.  One tree came down on front of house , but front deck stopped it
from going thru bedroom (I hated that deck anyway), Gazebo is shot, many
other trees down, We have some flooding here and on a boil water alert
until who knows when.  I thank God it wasn't worse.  I have electric, My
Mom does not.
 
I have a generator if I need it.  This was bought when I first had
trouble with my central unit many years back, I bought the generator
and a window A/C unit for ferret cage room in case there ever was an
emergency & the ferrets neeeded to stay cool.  I will never be without
A/C for them again after that scare.:-)
 
As for Chere, does anyone know how many ferrets she has at this time?
She mentioned she has to move them soon.  Won't they take them at the
hotel if in cages?  How do we get in touch with her?  Does anyone have
a generator that can be taken to her?  Mine is being used by My Mom.  I
would like to get in touch with her, if she has a small crew of ferrets
like she did a few years back, I could take them in the van with me.
 
I am having to leave again, I still have the van(that's going to be a
fortune, but if I can't pay for it, I won't mind going to jail as long as
it kept us alive and the ferrets cool:-)-), I myself am trying to raise
funds to get out of here again.  They just are not sure where this storm
will go, it is an hour to hour watch, anything can happen with these
storms and always at the last minute when you would not have time to
leave, so leaving early is the only thing to do.  Better to be safe, than
sorry.  All mobile homes are mandatory evacuations, just west of me in
Port charlotte and Punta Gorda are already under evacuation on the west
coast.  This is where Charley hit.  When Charley hit, we had heavy winds
and tornados in Okeechobee from that one.  My Butt's out of here again:-)

the funds are available immediately to me and can be used while I'm on
the road..My server is up and down, I am going to try again to get some
items on ebay for a one day auction to help raise moving money, which is
gas, etc.  , I will have to pay for the van and still have the hotel to
pay from last move.
 
This is the worst I've ever seen in florida with storms, we have had 3
storms now in a little over a month.  Not good.
 
To everyone in Florida, My prayers are with you, I hope this one will
miss us, but if not, I pray we all come out okay.  I believe in the power
of prayer, so please, everyone, pray for Florida.  If you are not here
and have never been here or thru a storm, you can't imagine the stress
and anxiety that comes with these and before they even hit.  It's a
living hell.  Okay, I'm rambling.

monday morning provided I raise enough to leave, the move last week, cost
over $1,000, I haven't paid all of it yet, I spent all I had, so I'm
pretty much broke right now.  Please go check out ebay items if I have
been able to get any on.
