I just had a friend explain many, many things to me! In one simple concept,
he explained :

why ferrets are dangerous
why no one knows of any wild colonies
why all the authorities don't like ferrets
where socks go in the wash

Its very simple - ferrrets DO get loose and form huge, feral colonies, but
no one ever sees them, because they're all hiding in laundry rooms all over
the world, instead of in the woods!

Ever wonder how you always seem to lose a sock in the wash? Now we know
what's actually happening!

Havent you ever wondered how all that fur ends up in the lint screen?
Ferrets!

I think we can call this hitherto-unknown species 'Laundry Ferrets'.

Now come the real questions - are they endangered? Should we have a captive
laundry-ferret breeding program? Personally, I think from the number of
socks worldwide that disappear each year, they're probably flourishing. :)

This has been a public service announcement.
