You're actually pretty lucky to find the runner with that saying on the
tag!  I went to get my little runner (on the day the store got them in)
and the "beanie people" (read, people who have just about every single
beanie in existence) were disappointed that there were none with that
saying (apparently, there are two sayings: the gross one and the
not-so-gross one) because Ty would certainly pull them from the shelves
after they got enough complaints from parents.  .  .  the other one does
allude to the critter as a generic mustelid:
 
"A ferret, mongoose, weasel, or mink.
What am I. . . what do you think?
Find a book.  Look and see.
I'm whatever you want me to be."
