] Well we took our sick fuzzies down to Woodbridge, VA last weekend. We
] left NY about 3am Friday and arrived 8am for their appointment.
] Dr. Kawasaki was by far the best vet we encountered (we saw two here
] in NY). Though the small animal clinic was practically mobbed with
] various customers (doggies and cats) he took his time talking with us
] about the operation and the bloodwork. His attention was far beyond
] professional politeness and well into genuine interest in our poor
] ferret's adrenal problems.
]
] Sneezie (the elder 4+ yrs old) had problems with both adrenals as well
] as a pancreas problem. Weezie had one bad adrenal (left) and a little
] thingie on the big vein in that area.
] We explored Washington DC Friday and Saturday. I'm sure we annoyed
] the staff with our periodic status calls. They were very nice though
] and didn't let on if they were annoyed :).
]
] When we went to visit they were both awake and Sneezie even wanted
] picked up (Weezie wanted to just sleep after a drink of water).
]
] We returned on Sunday (VERY HOT DAY!) but they seemed to do ok for the
] 6 hour return home. We had their cages setup in the back of the car
] with plenty of air and cool water. When we got home they were overjoyed
] and hopped all over the place stitches and all. We still have to
] watch for pancreatitis on Sneezie but so far so good.
]
] Thankyou very much Nancy for connecting us with Dr. Kawasaki. We are
] confident we received the BEST vet on the east coast and the total
] cost of the trip and bill were less than that of a local vet's quote
] for Sneezie alone (if she ended up having pancreas problems which she
] did/does). I even got to see Washington for the first time!
]
] For post-op, they are getting a daily dose of pred (crushed up in Ferretone)
] and we have to check Sneezie's urine with some colored paper thingie (vewy
] twicky procedure :). They are both eating and drinking.. Weezie is eating
] like a regular pig.
]
] I will followup with a hair/weight check hopefully in a week or two.
]
] Joe, Beth, Weezie,Sneezie, and Cody.
