i have used manic panic/punky color type dye on one of my albinos
before... i was dying my own hair and decided he shoudl match. ;) i
put a blue spot on his head. it was invaluable when i had the fiasco
with four of mine escaping--immediate identification.

it will fade eventully, if it's one of these types of dyes (and i
certainly hope it is, and not a chemical/peroxide dye!) jack's blue spot
is all gone now. since their fur is oily, it doesn't take like it does
to bleached human hair.

well i can't speak for this person, but i hope it was one of the "semi
permanent" types of dye found at a beuty supply store or head shop / punk
store/ etc. that stuff is non-toxic, pretty safe stuff. no bleachign
agents or nasty/smelling chemicals involved. i've used it on one of mine
(see above) with no ill effects, although to be even safer if i decide to
dye any ferrets again, i will probably use food coloring in the future.
people dye their poodles pink, after all... i dont' think the ferret
cares, and if it entertains the owner, so logn as it was done safely,
what's the harm? also, as sukie mentioned, it makes quick, foolproof
identification far easier when you have identical-looking ferrets.
