After much internal struggle and many phone calls, I decided that the
surgery to have Thor's eye removed was the right thing to do. It happened
this morning (Fri), and I just got the call that all went well. They have
him on a pain killer right now, so he's still pretty out of it, and they'll
keep him overnight.

I was told that if the lens had slid in any other direction (instead of
against the cornea), we might have been able to get away with medical
treatment (i.e. drops to reduce the pressure) rather than have to resort to
surgery. I just want him to be out of the pain that he was in. Trying to
remove the lens would have possibly added more complications and may not
have been successful in the long run anyway.

My concern now is for his other eye (which supposedly looks okay right now),
because I am still unconvinced that some "trauma" or "roughhousing" caused
this. I believe that it is a congenital problem, so we'll be watching him
closely.

I am grateful for this forum, where I was able to find out about another
similar case. So now my already unusual looking boy will be just that much
more unusual! (He's 4+ lbs of solid muscle (right now), with jowls and a
short nose - actually looks somewhat like a teddy bear!)
