Thanks again to the many who replied with help for my poor little girl who
had diarrhea. Now the diarrhea is gone, but she refuses to eat solid food.
While she was on the anti-diarrheal meds I started her on Duck Soup (boy did
I go through a lot of Ensure finding a recipe that she would eat, adding a
few raisins did the trick!) Now she will not eat her food! It is not as if
she is gorging herself on the duck soup either. About three spoonfuls a few
times a day is all she will eat. I try to get her to eat everytime I see
her up and about. I have been home all week with the chicken pox (at 27
years old, can you beleive it!?) and have certainly not missed her eating
any food. She went to the vet today and he beleives it is again an
intestinal problem. (This is second hand, as my chicken pox prevented me
from going the vet myself.) He prescribed 0.2 mL of Amoxycillan orally twice
a day, for 7 to 10 days, and said to call him on Monday if her condition
does not improve. He gave her a shot of anti-biotics and sub-cutaneous
fluids and possibly some prednisone (again, second hand info) and she is
actually much more active and happy acting since the visit, but still hasn't
touched one kibble. She also does not seem to be drinking as much water as
usual. Any ideas on how to get her to eat, or does she does have to get
better before she will eat? She will also eat raisins (big surprise),
yogurt and tang, and that's about it. According to the vet's scale she has
lost about 2 ounces. That seems like a lot for a pound and a half ferret.
Anyway, I think I am babbling, but any ideas will be gratefully accepted.
Also does the dosage sound correct for the Amoxy? It just doesn't seem like
very much in the syringe.

Thanks in advance,
Gail, Spot (the sick one) and Spike (the big fat goof)
