Sandy:

The story of your Simon broke my heart.

If anyone, anywhere, ever feels they have been slighted or turned away
from a vet, emergency hospital, or etc, in an emergency situation,
there is something you can do. It won't help you *now*, but may in the
future, & certainly will help others like you, as well.

Report any incidents to your State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
Include the name of the hospital, as well as the name of the
veterinarian involved. If they feel that a breach of duty has taken
place, or that the situation sounds neglectful, they will investigate.
I've heard of vet's having their licenses revoked over incidents
such as yours. In addition, if the vet or hospital belongs to any
accrediting agency (ie, AAHA, etc), report the incident to them, as
well. Their accreditation status will be reviewed, & again, if it
appears they have been neglectful, their accreditation could be
revoked.

I have never done this myself w/ a vet, but I *have* done it w/ a human
hospital (one case where my Dad received extremely poor treatment at a
large hospital - laid in the ER, unnnoticed for 16 hrs w/ a temp of
almost 105 F, after being rushed there by ambulance in the middle of
the night....then treated for a heart condition, when his family dr
sent along specific instructions that he be seen by an infectious
disease specialist STAT....the specialist never did make an appearance,
& Dad received basically no proper treatment for 4 days). Believe me,
when they're called on the carpet for such things, things *do* get
done.

This doesn't help you now, I know. But for anyone else who goes through
such a situation in the future, please keep this in mind.

My sincerest sympathies to you.
