Nan - Never start chemo without a diagnosis - you don't even know what you
are treating.  Tell your vet that the consult in Chicago may cost her $35 if
she's calling who I think she is.  Nothing wrong with charging for a
consult, as long as the consultee knows about the fee in advance.
 
I think the best thing to do is to quickly remove one of the lumps and have
it analyzed by a veterinary pathologist who has some experience with
ferrets.  There's no such thing as a lump with nothing in it - there must be
something there to cause the lump....
