To Urban Fredriksson:

Appreciated your informative discussion of ferret taxonomy.

>> My opinion is that all, or practically all, our ferrets
are actually polecat-ferrets, if perhaps not to a large
amount (I've got two that are at least 1/8:th) and that it
doesn't make any difference as to whether they can become
feral or not.

The problem is, authorities in ferret-unfriendly places like California are
always contending that "feral colonies" of ferrets can pose an ecological
problem, ravaging other other species that are presumed to be more desirable.
It has become the conventional wisdom in the US to say that such colonies do
not and cannot exist, since our ferrets lack the skills to survive in the
wild.

Another ramification: Some ferret owners contend that so-called "fitch
ferrets" of mixed blood are significantly more aggressive than "true
domestic" ferrets; hence it would be the former, rather than the latter, that
should be blamed for the rare instances of infant mauling which the
antiferret crowd seize upon so zealously.

To Russ Hazzon:

No objections to starting a newsgroup, but I'd hate to see it *replace* the
FML, simply because to me it's much more convenient (scooping down 1 issue
per day) than following newsgroups (10-50 per day).

Re: Ferret Freedom Fighters

You all should be aware that the CDFA, according to the latest issue of
Ferret Focus, its newsletter, now "boasts" Marshall Farms Ferrets as one of
its sponsors.

If the subject were canines rather than ferrets I would be tempted to point
to the old adage, 'Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.'

To FA Link:

>> So if your local WWIV BBS doesn't carry the Ferret Legalization Update
sub, it is available on WWIV-Net and you may be able to talk the SysOp into
carrying it.

I'm sure several of us would be interested in getting the Update. Is there
some central place where one can find lists of local WWIV BBSs or WWIV-Net
contact numbers?
