Josephus has developed an autoimmunity to his own red blood cells. He went
into surgery Wednesday (exploritory) to see what the lump was that the
doctor (Dr. Schiff) felt. Dr. Schiff found that his spleen was very enlarged,
and that he had an adrenal tumor the size of a pencil eraser (but had shown
no signs of problems caused by the tumor). He removed the tumor, sewed him
back up, and called me, really happy that we caught the tumor when it was
so small. Josephus came home and we had to force feed him nutrical (which
he doesn't like), karo syrup and water, baby food, basically anything with
any calories we were giving him. But we noticed the bruising was spreading,
called the vet, brought him in this morning (also, his pads had turned, for
a brief amount of time bright red). He had also stopped, last night, drinking
on his own and hated being force fed the sugar water. He acted like he
was choking. Dr. Schiff told us that the amoxicilin had triggered an
autoimmune response and his immune system was killing off his own red
blood cells. Any one heard of this - have experience with it?

thanks
